Additional Details

Joshua Lumbard (1792-1878) was a lifelong resident of West Windsor, VT. This terse diary is written in single-line entries, sometimes with several entries in a day; it also doubled as a crude account book. He does not sign the diary at any point, but he does mention his daughters Vernara, Susan, and Charlotte frequently, as well as his servant Carlos Strong, all shown with him in the 1850 census. He often describes butchering beef, collecting maple sap, and gathering wood in addition to the typical farm routines.
